Type: Proprietary 1k Waterborne

Application:- Temporary coating over an adhesive

  • Water resistant coating for temporary protection of substrates (i.e. protection of metal parts for corrosion resistance prior to assembly)
  • Dries fast to a hard, water-resistant film
  • Easily removed with solutions of alkali in water (i.e. household ammonia). Can be removed using a pressure washer with alkali solution in soap tank.
  • Available as clear coat, or as solid or transparent colors
  • Formulated for spray application

Temporary Coating over Adhesive on TPO Substrates

1. Problem Statement

What the cllient needed:

  • A water- or solvent-based coating that can be sprayed or roll-coated over adhesive-applied TPO
  • Must form a flexible, peelable film that doesn’t interfere with the adhesive beneath
  • Must not leave residue or react chemically with the adhesive
  • Removal should be easy after 24–48 hours, even under varying humidity and temperature

Durafine formulated a custom temporary protective coating:

  • Application: Spray, dip, or brush
  • Drying Time: < 15 minutes (forced air)
  • Peel Strength: Optimized for 1.2–1.5 N/cm²
  • Adhesive Compatibility: No migration or bonding disruption with acrylic, rubber, or PU-based adhesives
  • Removability: Clean peel in one piece, even after 72 hrs
  • VOC: < 50 g/L (compliant with RoHS and REACH)
